I am a 62 year old grandmother of six who used to be a horn player. I was, up until I came to know you, a Baumanniac. Now I have another whose talent is the same. The French Horn does truly speak to my heart; has from the minute I blew my first note. Keep up the great work. I will keep track via the internet and my CD collection.

I saw on the SFSymphony's website that Berlin Phil. was coming to play at Davies hall in November and I was wondering if perhaps during your time here, if you have time that is, if I could get a one-hour lesson with you? I know you're busy, but seeing as you would be so close, I didn't want to pass up the opportunity. Thanks for your time and I can't wait to hear you play at Davies Symphony Hall.

Dear Mr. Dohr,

Sorry to be writing in English rather than German. I'm a professional composer in California. Last March I completed a horn and piano work called "Delicate Fear," commissioned by Robert Ward, Principal Horn with the San Francisco Symphony. It is in three movements, about 11 minutes long. So far it has only been played in San Francisco. Might you be interested in hearing it and consider performing it? If so I'll be happy to email or snail-mail a score and recording.

Ich schaue mir schon seit langem Ihre Videos auf Youtube an und bin hellauf begeistert, wie Sie mit ihrem Horn umgehen, absolut faszinierend , welchen Klang Sie aus Ihrem Alexander 103 Horn produzieren(5. Mahler).
Ich selbst spiele auch Horn und jedes Mal bin ich neu motiviert, wenn ich Sie auf Youtube sehe. Sie sind mein Vorbild!

Hallo Herr Dohr!
Ich bin 13 Jahre alt und Hornist aus Feldbach, Steiermark (A). Ich war bis jetzt leider nur in 2 Konzerten von Ihnen, die mich jedoch sehr inspiriert und zum Üben motiviert hatten. Das 1. Konzert war dies in Graz, Steiermark am 14. Mai im Kammermusiksaal des Musikvereins. Hier hat mich vor allem beeindruckt, wie Sie den langsamen Teil der Villanelle für Horn und Klavier von Paul Dukas nur mithilfe der Stopftechnik gespielt haben. Das 2. Konzert war am 1. Juni in Bad Gleichenberg, Steiermark mit dem Ensemble Wien-Berlin. Ich habe mir nach jedem Konzert Autogramme von Ihnen geholt, ich glaube jedoch nicht, dass Sie sich noch an mich erinnern können (ich hatte eine Krawattennadel auf der ein Horn abgebildet war). Als ich mich mit Ihnen unterhielt, waren Sie mir auch sehr sympatisch und nett. Ich habe auch viele Aufnahmen von Ihnen auf Youtube gesehen! Bei jedem Auftritt leisten Sie Höchstleistungen, wofür ich Sie auch sehr bewundere! Ich werde mir natürlich auch ihre CD mit den Hornkonzerten von Wolfgang-Amadeus Mozart kaufen, die in ein paar Tagen erscheinen wird! Mir ist zwar klar, dass ich die Klasse, in der Sie sind nie erreichen werde, jedoch sind Sie mein großes Vorbild!

Thema: Digital Concert Hall

Herr Dohr,
I studied horn in Berlin way back in 1976 with Thomas Bacon, who at the time was Solo Horn des Radio Symphonie Orchestra Berlin. I attended many concerts at the Philharmonie, and watching you and your coleagues performing in that glorious hall has brought back many fond memories. As a season subscriber to the Digital Concert Hall, I have come to simply adore your playing. Bravo, Herr Dohr.

Thema: Horn Quintett KV 407

Heute abend habe ich mir im iTunes Store Ihre
Aufnahme vom Hornquintett KV 407 geladen und
bin total begeistert,besonders auch von Ihrem Klasse-Feeling im langsameren Satz.Jetzt habe
ich Ihre tolle,phantastisch freie Tonqualität
endlich mal über meine richtigen Boxen gehört
und nicht nur mit den kleinen PC-Boxen auf
Youtube. Das Quintett KV 407 scheint mir alles
in allem technisch schwieriger zu sein als das
2. und 4.Hornkonzert desselben Komponisten.
Einst habe ich Hauptfach Horn studiert,es aber
nie richtig gekonnt.Seit 20 Jahren bin ich als Sänger tätig und höre aber auch bei Hornisten
noch mehr auf das Feeling als auf die Technik,
da mich in erster Linie die wirklich künstlerische Aussage und Erscheinung interessiert. Es ist aber auch technisch phantastisch, wie mühelos frei Ihr Ton vom pp
bis zum f in diesem Quintett klingt.
